Sports traditions are very strong in my small Siberian city of Tomsk, where there are many universities and other educational and scientific institutions, a huge number of young people. My father also remembers how in his youth (in the 1950s) he was fond of basketball and played in the same school team with the future Olympic champion and two-time world champion Sergei Belov. But my father also remembers that in the Soviet Union there was a very strong tradition of street football, but the game of basketball had a completely different fate. Balls were very difficult to get, baskets were at that time only in 3-4 places in the city, in sports halls. Sometimes amateurs managed to make homemade baskets out of iron hoops from old wooden barrels and attach them to some trees or fences in the city. Street basketball was not massively popular, it was impossible at all. It was only relatively recently that basketball began to leave the halls on the streets and in the courtyards of the city of Tomsk. In 2010, I accidentally saw and took some photos at a streetbasket competition in the central square of the city. Among the selected photos are pictures of the game of different teams and different game moments.
