Category : BASKETBALL, A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
Two widely known fact about the Philippines. 1. Filipino loves basketball. 2. The Philippines is made up of over 7000 islands with between 120 and 175 different languages. I grew up on a small island called Negros. Our language there is Hiligaynon or sometimes called Ilonggo. Few years ago, I had an opportunity to travel to different part of the country. Together with my team, we went to Capas, Tarlac and people native to that area are called Aeta and their languages is Abellen. While we're there, I saw Aeta kids playing basketball. I don't know how but I was able to talk to them to let me join the game since our language are totally different. Bottom line is even if we don't understand each other language we can still communicate through basketball. Photo taken around October 2015 at Sitio Bulakan, Brgy Sta Juliana Capas Tarlac, Philippines.
